Gardener's calendar for every day of May (coming soon)

People say: "Spring day - feeds the year." This statement is especially true for May. It is for this month that the main work on laying the future harvest falls - soil preparation, sowing, planting, caring for overwintered plants.

Seedling preparation in May

Before planting in greenhouses and on the beds, continue caring for the seedlings of vegetables and flowers - water, feed, loosen the soil in pots and containers. If your seedlings are in the country, you can start hardening them - take them out on warm days for several hours. This will help the plants to transplant more easily. ..

May work in the garden

Digging and loosening the soil in the beds, preparing them for sowing vegetables and potatoes.
At the beginning of May, seeds of green and vegetable cold-resistant crops are sown in open ground: dill, parsley, spinach, watercress, cilantro, carrots, radish, peas, onion sets on a feather. Seedlings will appear earlier if the crops are covered with foil or spunbond.
If the greenhouses are prepared correctly for the spring, and hot beds are laid there, then at the beginning of May you can plant seedlings of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers there.
Continue vernalization of potato tubers and preparing them for planting. You can start planting potatoes when the weather is warm, and the soil at a depth of 10 cm warms up to 10 ° C. At the same time, beans and beets can be sown.
Cut off the first crop of greens: perennial onions (multi-tiered, batun, slime, chives), sorrel. After that, feed and water the cut plants.
In early May, you can plant early cabbage seedlings on prepared beds. Mid-late varieties are planted in the middle of the month. At the end of May, late pickled cabbage varieties are planted, as well as seedlings of other types of cabbage.
In the third decade of May, you can sow with seeds or plant cucumbers with seedlings in beds in open ground. At first, it is advisable to cover the crops with a film.
At the same time, onion sets are planted on the beds for growing on a turnip.
Return frosts are possible in May. To protect crops and plantings, as well as a blooming garden from the cold, it is advisable to prepare several smoke piles, in which dry hay, straw, branches and chips are placed, and on top they are covered with a wet layer of grass, leaves and even earth. Heaps are ignited when the temperature in the area drops to 0 ° C. The smoke will increase the temperature in the area by a couple of degrees and protect the plants from frosts in May.
Throughout May, you need to provide care for the plants planted in the beds and in greenhouses - water, feed, loosen the soil.

May garden work

Inspect fruit trees and berry bushes and prune dry, broken and diseased branches. Cover the sections with garden pitch.
Continue grafting apples and pears.
Plant seedlings of apple trees, pears, cherries, plums, cherry plums in the prepared planting pits. Provide regular watering to new plantings.
Carry out a set of measures to combat pests and diseases in the garden. To do this, you can use both chemical preparations, for example, copper sulfate, and plant preparations - infusions of garlic, onions, tansy, calendula, tobacco dust.
On strawberry beds, after the appearance of young leaves, it is necessary to cut off all the old ones, loosen the soil between the rows and bushes, and feed them with fertilizers.
Fertilize the berry bushes and mulch the soil around the bushes.
All plant residues that have been collected in the garden and in the vegetable garden should be placed in a compost heap.

Flower garden in May

Loosen the soil around roses, clematis, perennial flower plants, feed them with complex mineral fertilizers.
Plant dahlias and gladioli in prepared soil on flower beds, sow seeds of thermophilic annual flowers, for example, nasturtium, morning glory. Plant flower seedlings - marigolds, asters and others.
In May, you can lay a new lawn - sow with a mixture of grass seeds. Clean the existing lawn of debris, pierce the soil to get oxygen to the roots, carry out the first mowing of grasses at a height of at least 10 cm. Feed the lawn with fertilizers.

Lunar sowing calendar for 2021 for the Urals

The moon has 4 phases, each of which in its own way affects the development of plants, inhibiting or stimulating their growth:

  • new moon, when you should postpone all work and start preparing tools
  • a growing moon that stimulates the growth of all shoots, leaves and branches
  • full moon when processes are slowed down
  • the waning moon, which stimulates the growth of root crops, the rest of the processes are inhibited.

For planting seedlings in the Urals, the growing and waning moon is important in the calendar, which in 2021 falls on certain days indicated in the table. Knowing these dates, you can safely plan sowing work.

The sowing lunar calendar for February 2021 indicates that it is already possible to start sowing vegetable crops in the Urals, if they will be grown in a heated greenhouse. It will not be superfluous to prepare the seeds and test them for germination. In the first half of February, it is better to plant crops with a long growing season: peppers, eggplants. In the second decade, they start sowing beets, carrots for early beam production. Sowing of peppers and eggplants for outdoor cultivation is continued. They begin to sow onions for seedlings, stalked celery.

At the beginning of March, according to the sowing lunar calendar of 2021, for the Urals, they are sowing all kinds of greens, tomatoes, white cabbage, Brussels sprouts and Peking cabbage of different varieties. Closer to the middle of the month, continue sowing pepper for seedlings. In the third decade of March according to the lunar calendar, root crops are planted, seed potatoes are germinated.

In early April, it is allowed to sow cold-resistant crops, for example, radish, cabbage. In the second decade, they plan to plant peas, herbs and onions on a feather. Towards the end of April, they are sowing potatoes in greenhouses, beets, and carrots. Planting of legumes, cucumbers, zucchini and pumpkin is allowed.

In early May, potatoes and herbs are planted in the Urals, and strawberries are transplanted. Towards the middle of the month, the sowing of peppers and eggplants for late fruiting continues, fruit trees and bushes are being planted. At the end of May there is a turn of root crops for long-term storage.

In June, absolutely all root crops, greens, and cereals are planted. In the third decade, they are engaged in the transplantation of berry crops. In July, according to the lunar calendar, they start sowing winter and autumn crops, for example, black radish.

In August and September, dill, parsley and other winter crops are sown for early consumption. Since mid-August, they have been transplanting strawberries, fruit trees and shrubs in the Urals.

Lunar sowing calendar of the gardener and gardener for may 2021

May is the most difficult month for gardeners and gardeners. This is the time of soil cultivation, sowing and planting of various crops, the fight against plant diseases and pests. There is more than enough work in May, but these are pleasant chores - chores that gardeners have been waiting for all winter.

For the gardener, May is, first of all, a month of struggle against the vagaries of nature, with recurrent frosts, hail and even snow. Everyone knows that snow in our area is quite real even in June, not to mention May.

According to the law of meanness, as soon as you plant seedlings in open ground or sow heat-loving crops, the next day the frost will hit, or rain and hail. Sound familiar? Therefore, experienced gardeners, including myself, are taking emergency measures to protect against frost, barely noticing the rapid rise in atmospheric pressure, calmness and the starry sky.

To protect against freezing, protective watering is most often used. Sprinkler irrigation protects flowers, vegetables and strawberries (strawberries) well. Seedlings of heat-loving crops: sweet peppers, eggplants, tomatoes, cucumbers are well insulated at night with a film or special covering material. If you wish, you can insulate the plants with two or three layers of protective material.

In May, they make the last adjustments to the plan for placing plants on the site, taking into account the characteristics of a particular site. Cold-resistant plants are placed in the lowlands and on the northern slopes, and heat-loving crops on the hills and on the southern slopes. Let me remind you that cold-resistant plants - cabbage, root vegetables, heat-loving onions - tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini.

As the soil warms up, organic fertilizers are applied: manure, compost. After warming up the soil, seedlings of cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini and other southern crops growing in greenhouses and greenhouses are planted.

When planting plants, one should remember that plants are demanding on lighting: tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers love the sun, and cabbage, onions and carrots tolerate partial shade well.

How moon phases affect plants

The lunar calendar is based on the phases of the moon. These phases just affect the plants in a variety of ways. Moreover, this influence is exerted not only on cultivated plants, but in general on the entire plant world of our planet.

People have watched the moon, and not only since ancient times. As a result, four main phases of the moon were identified: New Moon, Waxing Moon, Full Moon and Waning Moon.

Each of these phases represents something like one of the seasons of the year. For example, the New Moon is winter, the waxing moon is the height of spring, the full moon is summer, and finally the waning moon is like a golden autumn.

However, the Moon also has smaller transitional phases, which we practically do not notice. However, in the night sky, we are attracted by these four phases, which are very clearly visible.

But, in any of its states, in any of its phases, the Moon influences plants in its own way.

In some phases they grow better, in others they bear fruit better, etc. Therefore, the correct ratio of gardening and moon phases will help to get, subsequently, a good harvest, and the plants themselves will grow and develop much better.

At the heart of the "work" of the lunar calendar and, accordingly, the basic principles that a gardener can follow, are:

  • Prohibition of various agricultural activities on the days of new moons, full moons and solar and lunar eclipses
  • During the growing phase of the moon, it is better to plant plants that give aboveground fruits
  • During the waning phase of the moon, it is better to plant root crops
  • In addition to the phases of the moon, the influence of the zodiacal constellations is also taken into account.

As for solar and lunar eclipses, in 2021 they will fall on May 26, June 10, November 19 and December 4

But back to the effect of phases on plants. During the New Moon, plants usually absorb very little moisture. Therefore, it is not recommended to water them especially abundantly during this period. But in the Full Moon phase, watering is just necessary.

In the first quarter of the growing moon, plant juices rise from the roots along the trunk (or stem) to the leaves. Note that the same process takes place in the spring. Therefore, it is best to cut the greens during this period. Then the onion or salad will carry the most vitamins. But during the waning moon, the opposite happens, the juices go to the roots, so in this phase the most nutritious will be the roots.

Each of the phases of the moon has its own timing of duration. This means that during each specific phase it is necessary to have time to do certain work. Moreover, it is not necessary to do this with the onset of the phase. If you do not have time in the first days, you can start work a little later. However, there are periods when it is not possible to perform certain works on every day of the phase.

So, for example, the New Moon is three days long. During these three days, it is recommended to prune plants, destroy weeds and pests, remove diseased and dried branches, and pinch plants. This is due to the fact that on New Moon all plant juices go to the roots, and its upper aboveground part "falls asleep" for a while. But there is a small nuance here. These works are carried out only on the day before the new moon and on the day after it. It is not recommended to do anything directly on the new moon itself, however, as well as on the full moon.

It is also best to harvest root crops and harvest seeds on New Moon. When the moon is growing, it is better to plant plants or replant them. Harvesting cuttings for rooting, feeding plants, harvesting vegetables will also be beneficial.

On the growing moon, it is best to sow the seeds of those plants that give above-ground crops, but the roots are planted on the waning moon.

The full moon lasts three days. What can be done during this period. You can treat plants from pests, remove weeds, loosen and huddle the soil. But it is impossible during this period to prune and pinch.

In the phase of the waning moon, it is best to water and feed plants, destroy weeds.

The growth and development of plants is influenced not only by the phases of the moon, but also by its location in one or another sign of the zodiac.

During the period when the Moon is in such zodiac signs as Cancer, Scorpio, Taurus or Pisces, which are highly productive, sowing seeds will be favorable. Almost every seed planted can sprout.

When the Moon is in the constellation of Aquarius, it is not recommended to engage in any work. This is the most unfavorable sign.

These are also Leo and Aries. However, if you are running out of time for disembarkation, then you can use the period of these signs.

The period when the Moon is in signs such as Gemini, Sagittarius and Virgo, although they are less productive than Cancer, Scorpio, Taurus and Pisces, are still favorable for working at their summer cottage.

In order to correctly navigate the landing days, I will give a table of favorable and unfavorable days with a waxing and waning moon.

And, finally, it is believed that with the onset of the 11 lunar day, it is better not to do any landing work. Day 12 is better for caring for indoor plants. But on the other hand, 13 and 14 lunar days are considered the most suitable for a large number of a wide variety of work on the site. This includes planting cruciferous and nightshade crops, planting watermelons, melons and pumpkins. The best days for planting root crops and herbs.
